Whenever we reported on the Haku schools in our previous magazines, it was clear that in addition to the classical curriculum, strong emphasis was placed on the ‘greening’ of the school environment, more so, this fact was also worked out educationally. The collaboration with CEPP is certainly no stranger to this.
Catalan cellist Pablo Casals said it: ‘A child must know that he is a miracle, that since the beginning of the world there has been no other child like him and that until the end of the world there will be no other child like him.’ And of course that applies to girls too....

In June, the time had finally come: the official inauguration of Kalidevi School in Chaap, Makwanpur District. The mayor cut the ribbon, unveiled the plaque listing all collaborators and officially handed over the building.
We have been working together for 10 years now with the Nepalese ngo CEPP (Centre for Educational Policies and Practices). CEPP wants to improve public primary education, especially in remote areas in the south, where the alluvial plains start to give way to the mountains: Inner Terai. They want to empower teachers, parents and students alike.

How it started… In 2008, the secondary school of Sint Vincentius a Paulo, Gijzegem, Belgium, schose a theme for the year: ‘Without Borders’. We invited a large number of people, including Teeka Bhattarai, Nepalese development worker, who at that moment was pursuing a Master's degree in Pedagogy at Leuven University. Teeka, with a long experience in ecological agricultural projects, was convinced that sustainable changes can only be achieved through education. We organized an exhibition on the opening day and a lot of learning sessions for the students.
